Victorian Training Awards Win for Imran
Imran Khan, Trainee Draftsman with AE Smith in Melbourne, has been awarded a prestigious training accolade by the Victorian State Government
Now in its 56th year, the Victorian Training Awards recognise and reward people’s achievements in vocational education and training. An initiative by the Victorian State Government’s Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, awards are presented in a number of categories and are considered by Judging Panels comprised of individuals with extensive experience in the training and industry sectors.
Imran took top honours in the Victorian Trainee of the Year category, presented for outstanding achievement in his studies. Other finalists included representatives from the hospitality, utility services and horticulture sectors.
This is another award in a series of top accolades presented to Imran in recognition of his positive attitude toward learning and his contribution to the industry – including the “National Traineeship Achievement Award” from peak industry body, Australian Mechanical Contractors Association (AMCA).
The draftsman for AE Smith’s Victorian Construction division turned to his trade after starting his career in sales and is now heralded as one of the company’s bright young stars.
Employed since January 2007 as a trainee, his potential to develop into a leading draftsman has already been demonstrated by completing the AMCA four year course in Mechanical Drafting in under three years; contributing to projects beyond his level of experience and his proactive role mentoring other trainees. Imran has also recently begun training to become a qualified assessor for AMCA.
“He has demonstrated an amazing attitude towards his work, is committed to learn as much as possible and has now developed abilities which exceed some of our seasoned drafters,” says Ron Oates, Drawing Office Manager with AE Smith Melbourne.
Imran is now automatically nominated for the “Australian Trainee of the Year” as Victoria’s representative in the 2010 National Training Awards presented in November.
Imran’s awards and recognition are following in the footsteps of other AE Smith trainees and apprentices nominated for industry awards in past years – attesting to AE Smith’s investment and support of future talent.
