John’s signature long locks and beard were given the chop by a local hairdressing salon, who’ve been supporting John in his fundraising efforts by taking donations from their customers. Fundraising has also been done amongst fellow AE Smith colleagues and on site co-workers.

“I’ve had long hair most of my life so it’s pretty different – my kids didn’t want to know me for a few hours after I first had it done,” says John.

So far John has raised $500 from people supporting his cause and believes he’ll at least double it now he’s taken a razor and scissors to transform his trademark look.

John decided to conduct his own fundraising project after watching several close friends and family suffer from cancer.

“It can hit anyone,” John adds, “But we can all do a small bit to help.”
