Mature age apprentice, Chay Huynh has just won Apprentice of the Year at Melbourne’s Box Hill Institute
To have both the electrical skillset to understand controls and then add refrigeration as a second trade means he’s a real asset to both our customers and the wider AE Smith team, especially on energy saving projects
Already a qualified electrician and building controls specialist, Chay decided to add refrigeration mechanic to his repertoire of skills – and signed up for the apprenticeship program.
According to Morten Saltum, Service Manager in Melbourne the Apprentice of the Year award comes as no surprise:
“Chay is dedicated, very interested in his trades and simply gets stuff done in a safe and professional way – they are winning qualities.”
Morten also adds that now Chay is a ‘dual tradesman’, he brings a winning combination of technical skills to the AE Smith team.
“To have both the electrical experience to understand controls and then add refrigeration as a second trade means he’s a real asset to both our customers and the wider AE Smith team, especially on energy saving projects,” said Morten.
The Centre for Electrical & Refrigeration Trades at Box Hill Institute is one of the largest training providers of electrical and refrigeration apprentices in Australia. At a special presentation in May, Chay was formally awarded “First Place” in “Apprenticeship Certificate in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning – Year Three”.
