Helping Go the Extra Mile
Working in administration, Annie Nguyen knows a thing or too about helping those around her at the Melbourne Service AE Smith office. So it was no surprise to her colleagues to hear that Annie was going the extra mile to help orphans in Uganda too

Go the Extra Mile is a 50km charity fundraising walk designed to assist and support the local charity HopeBuilders International as they work to provide caring homes to Uganda’s orphans.
On a cold and foggy April morning, Annie’s 50km walk started at Jells Park and ended some 10 hours later in the Dandenong Ranges.
In preparing for the walk, event organisers published tips for participants warning walkers to know their gear, train on the course and be mindful of safety on the trail: Hypothermia, heat exhaustion, bush fire, high wind, snakes, ants and spiders some of the potential hazards to be wary of!
“A big Thank You to all those who made a donation in support of my 50km walk to raise money for Uganda’s orphans,” said Annie whose effort to go the extra mile generated close to $500.
Did you know, an estimated 2.3 million orphans live in Uganda? HIV/AIDS is responsible for orphaning around 1.2 million children, sweeping away a generation of parents. An average Ugandan family includes seven children – when the parents die, the children must fend for themselves. Learn more at www.hopebuilders.org
