AE Smith employee profile: Colin Jones

After relocating to Australia from the United Kingdom, AE Smith’s DfMA expert, Project Coordinator Colin Jones believes AE Smith was the best career move for him, to progress in his career in the industry.

Colin helps to implement the new process for construction, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), which includes:

  • Bringing new assembly facilities online and embedding end-to-end prefabrication business processes in the stages of estimation
  • Business Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Procurement
  • Manufacture
  • Transport
  • Sequencing
  • Commissioning
  • Installation of services.

Colin has taken part in many projects at AE Smith, installing some of the largest prefabrication risers in Australia.

One notable project he contributed to was designing, engineering, certifying, manufacturing, assembling, transporting and installing 25 risers for a large PPP hospital project in Queensland. The high quality project was delivered on time and consisted of 58 modules that ranged from four tonne to nine tonne each.

Colin’s other completed projects include the installation of a Victorian University’s ten tonne 16 metre fume cupboard riser and the installation of several prefab risers, amongst many others.
