A Night To Remember For Mackay Apprentices

AE Smith Mackay have recently welcomed a number of new apprentices to the team, whilst celebrating the achievements of their current crew

The Mackay Apprentice Induction Night, which took place this year on January 6th in the Flinders Room at the Mackay Grande Suites, is an annual event held for two important purposes:

It’s an evening of recognition and celebration where awards are presented to current apprentices who have successfully completed their training. At the same time, new apprentices are welcomed into the AE Smith family allowing them, and their parents and partners, to meet AE Smith management and team members in a social atmosphere.

70 guests attended the event, including local builders along with suppliers such as Temperzone, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Carrier and Actrol – organisations which are supporting AE Smith in their mission to train the next generation of refrigeration technicians, electricians, plumbers and sheetmetal apprentices.

The evening kicked off with Michael Mulherin, AE Smith Mackay General Manager, welcoming everyone to enjoy the evening and introducing guest speaker Bradley O’Carroll from the Plumbers Union, Queensland. Other special guests at the event included David Seedsman, AE Smith National Construction Manager, and Peter Staedler, General Manager AE Smith Victoria Construction.

The new apprentices were introduced and presented with gifts ranging from vouchers to tools and equipment, kindly supplied by a number of organisations: Paul Stevenson of Northern Air for the sheetmetal workers and plumber; Craig Black from John R Turks for the electricians; and John Clark from Daikin for the refrigeration technicians.

Michael Mulherin presented three Mackay refrigeration technician apprentices – Wayne Donaldson, Jake Patteson and Matthew Breen – with awards for successfully completing their training, whilst special mention was made to Chris Bracken and Stephanie Gower, two fourth year apprentices continuing their training with AE Smith.

Once the speeches and awards presentation were completed the new apprentices, accompanied by family and friends, signed their indentures with Natalie and Michelle from MRAEL, the apprentice’s training provider.

A great night was had by all and our congratulations go to all the AE Smith apprentices who have successfully completed their training. We wish our new apprentices a challenging, enjoyable and rewarding year ahead.
